Roman’s Morning Coffee – Berg Tries the Corner and Misses

Seeing as all non-delusional Cub fans have already tuned the 2011 season out we really haven’t touched on the Cubs much around here, for good reason too.  With the Bulls & Hawks in the playoffs and the Cubs just basically being horrid there are really only so many times I can blog about how awful they are.  However, every once and awhile there comes a long a moment that just makes you laugh.

Such a moment happened last night during the cubs 4-7 loss to the Mets in a rain shortened 7 inning game.  After starter Casey Coleman lasted just 1.1 innings giving up 6 earned runs (stay hot there Casey!) everyone’s favorite reliever entered the game for the Cubs, Mr. Justin Berg.

What took place for the next 12 pitches is something not seen since, then rookie, Sergio Mitre accomplished this feat back in 2006.  Before Mitre the last time 12 STRAIGHT BALLS were thrown in one outing was the debut of Ricky Wild Thing Vaughn.  Yes you read that correctly, Berg came in and threw 12 STRAIGHT BALLS.  As someone who was allergic to the strike zone in my pitching days I cannot even fathom accomplishing this feat.  You would think the law of averages would eventually take over, but not for Mr. Berg.

God the Cubs suck and their pitching is even worse.  12 STRAIGHT BALLS!  Click on the link below, just trust me on this one.
