We hear at Roman Is Burning do not condone betting on college sports, or sports of any kind for that matter. However this doesn’t mean special guest writer Jim “don’t call me Don Caprio” Cook doesn’t condone betting, in fact he greatly encourages it. Over the course of this football season Jim “John Anthony” Cook will be providing you his insights on upcoming games and where he thinks the smart money is best played. So without further ado…

PARLAY LOCK OF THE YEAR
Western Michigan +13 at Michigan. You know the cliche, “If you have 2 quarterbacks, that means you have no quarterback.” Michigan has three of them. Does that mean they have a negative one QB? With Rich Rod’s own players turning him in for working them too hard, it appears there are too many distractions/not enough guys who want to turn around on a 3-9 record for Michigan to be ready for week one. Plus, Western Michigan is near the top of the MAC so they should be a quality opponent.

Please don't cry again Rich
OK State -4.5 hosting Georgia. OK State basically returns their triple crown of speed in Zac Robinson, Kendall Hunter, and Dez Bryant. Georgia lost their two studs, Matty Stafford and Knowshon Moreno, in the draft. Oklahoma State will be able to put up points in bunches and I’m not sure Georgia, with 5th year senior QB Joe Cox, will be able to hang with them.
BEST MONEY LINE BET
Virgina Tech +225 against Alabama on a neutral site. Alabama lost their starting QB, leading rusher, a manboobish (but extreamly good) offensive tackle, and their stud DT is having knee problems. They’re going up against a VA Tech team that went to a BCS game 2 years in a row and has hopes for a National Title this year. Frank Beamer’s squad always has one of the strongest special teams units year in and year out, and this one could be decided by a blocked punt or long kickoff return. For the opportunity to double your money in a game between two of the nation’s top teams, thats a good money line bet.
